Professor B.L. Khandelwal served the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi for 35 years in different capacities. Where he introduced new and novel ideas to achieve excellence and make teaching more effective and developed new interdisciplinary undergraduate/graduate/research programs. He work on chemistry of Selenium and Tellurium , developed a research group in the Department with the financial support of IIT Delhi , DST and CSIR. He being the First Chemist to initiate research work on Selenium & Tellurium chemistry in India and thereby received attention of chemists working on selenium and tellurium chemistry all over the world.
He had a collaborative research program with Professor W.R. McWhinnie of the Aston University, Birmingham (UK) during 1985-1989. He has been a member of the Program Advisory Committee (PAC Inorganic Chemistry) Department of Science and Technology (DST) from 1990 to 1993 and a member of the Editorial Board of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, India. He has been the Chairman JEE during 1983-1985. He has more than 150 original research papers to his credit and produced 35 Ph.D. and M.Tech. students in his research carrier. He was honored as Emeritus Scientist from CSIR and worked as scientist at Defense Materials Stores Research and Development Establishment (DMSRDE),Kanpur from 1997 to 2001, and as Emeritus Fellow of AICTE at HBTI Kanpur from 2001-2004.
He has been the Chief Editor of NCERT chemistry book for class XI and XII in 2005. He served as the Director,Disha Institute of Management and Technology(DIMAT),Raipur(CG) from 2006-2011 and thereafter served as Director(Academics), Pratap Institute of Technology and Science(PITS), Palsana (Rajasthan)(2012-2014) and has now rejoined PITS from August 2019.
He has been recently honored with Lifetime Achievement Award for significant contribution in teaching and research by the India Chemical Society (2015).
